A Letter to DASMA Members

Dear Fellow DASMA member,

This letter is to introduce you to the “GDO Progress Alliance,” a group of Garage Door and Opener Industry manufacturers who are concerned about legislative initiatives that would cause serious problems and stifle future growth and innovation in our industry.  Specifically we are concerned about Section 32 of the Consumer Product Safety Act of 2007 (S. 2045) and its long-term impact on all Door and Opener Manufacturers.

We also are committed to work with DASMA and other associations in support of the voluntary ANSI code development process for changes to UL325 and other standards. We are dedicated to consumer safety for industry products.  We invite you to join with us in this effort.

In particular, the GDO Progress Alliance was formed as a way to temporarily communicate industry concerns in Washington due to certain voting anomalies within DASMA in recent days.  We appreciate your views and hope to effectively represent and communicate them. We have established an office in Washington and have already gone to work to defeat section 32.

We have taken the liberty of attaching a letter for your use in opposing Section 32.  We encourage you to review this letter and use all or part of it in communicating your opposition to your U.S. Senators.  I would urge you to forward your letter to our Washington office where it will be hand delivered to the appropriate offices.  We have taken this action due to the lag time in mail delivery to the U.S. Senate for security reasons.  We will be sending you information about our website and e-mail address in the next few days.  You do not have to be a member of the alliance to receive this free service.

If you would like to join us, we would ask your financial aid.  All funds will be fully accounted for and unused funds will be returned.   Several manufacturers have already made a financial commitment and the more who participate, the less cost to each member.

If you need to know more, we can share informative documents and media with you.  We continually update our members on the status of S. 2045 as events move forward.  We emphasize that our long-term goals are to support existing associations at the forefront of technological innovation and to try to maintain DASMA in its position as spokesman for the industry, with focused dedication on consumer safety of industry products.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope to see you in Florida next week.

Sincerely,

Ken Martin
